Ett av de äldsta Loreto pilgrimsfärdskapellen i Tyskland installerade ett nytt ljussystem inomhus 2008. Med sin tilltalande installation har Korona Leuchten skapat en atmosfär som är ideal för andlig tillbedjan.
Soft lighting for St. Maria Loreto
The same could not be said of the lighting system inside St. Maria Loreto. By the end of 2007 the system was considered to be totally inadequate. There had never been a proper lighting design. Stephan Meyer from Korona Leuchten in Augsburg was commissioned to design this new system. He came up with a solution that combined impressive lighting effects with low energy consumption.
The lighting had to be in keeping with the spiritual atmosphere of the chapel, provide reading light for the priest and illuminate the baroque Bavarian altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was important to highlight the wood carvings with their white gold and yellow gold leaf detailing and to provide sufficient light on the relatively dark figure of Mary with its heavy brocade cloak.
In each of the niches beside the altar is a special LED luminaire painted matt black. It is equipped with a total of 21 individually adjustable TALEXXeos P211-2 LED modules and TALEXX lens O211-2 spot lenses from Tridonic in various light colours. Daylight white and neutral white emphasise the white gold elements and the white dove, while warm white and amber accentuate the yellow gold leaf, Mary’s face and the fresco at the back. The luminaire operates on just two TALEXXconverter K350 units. Because the glare reduction fittings for the luminaire are concealed the light seems to appear from nowhere.
Illumination for the altar, lectern and paintings
Because of the serious blackening of the ceiling fresco, so bad that the original blue tones were barely visible, Korona opted for a combination of blue and neutral white LEDs. These are mixed along the entire length of the chancel in an irregular pattern, bathing the vaulted ceiling in a powerful dark blue light. Korona used aluminium sections with linear lens optics for mounting the LED strips. Shade plates prevent excessive brightness on the walls and ceiling near the LED lights. Six further TALEXXeos P211-2 LED units with TALEXX lens O211-2 lenses illuminate the stucco cornicing opposite the LED strips.
Classic QR111 50 W and 75 W halogen spotlights fitted with low-voltage halogen lamps, mounted on cardan joints and with different beam angles from Spot to MediumFlood are used to emphasise the paintings on the walls and offer sufficient light for the altar and lectern. The lamps were installed in two special luminaire casings designed for mounting in the niches.
Thanks to the optimum beam angle the priest has enough light for reading (1,000 lux) and still has a good view of the congregation with no annoying glare. The new technology adds to the sacred and mystical atmosphere of St. Maria Loreto without having to use any dimming effects. Johannes Kugelmann is very pleased. “The new lighting system is a complete success. Our congregation is delighted with the atmosphere it helps to create.”
